Why does it say “riverchurch”?

Is that the church name?

No. As of right now, there is no name. It’s just church.

A few reasons why the domain is riverchurch…

1. To be honest, I already had it as a domain in use many years ago for another project with our church at the time. The thought of trying to come up with something new right now actually stresses me out.

2. The principle of a river church is something that captivated us years ago. The idea of a river church is to be a kind of church where resources flow in and out, rather than being a reservoir church. Resources are not just monetary or physical items, they can be people and ideas, really anything that God gives us. The reason to be a river church? There is maximum blessing for all and simply put, it keeps everything in perspective.

3. There are many great Bible references, metaphors and word pictures about rivers and water and life on this journey with Christ, some perhaps have even grown cliche. However, this year I heard a new one that I haven’t been able to forget: “I’d rather be mud than cement.” It is fitting for so many life scenarios and attitudes, I almost feel bad limiting it in this post to be about church. It captures well the idea to be flexible, pliable, capable of transformation and so on. It reminded me that choosing to be mud implies that there will be an inherent messy-ness to our days, but even so it is better than the alternative.

So we are about being like a river, mud and all.
